Tales Of Surviving And Thriving In An Alcohol-Obsessed Culture

Storytelling, Plato and July 3, 2023

For a while now I write in a journal every morning. It’s part of a morning routine which I hold fiercely to my soul. My morning routine has encouraged me, brought me peace and hope, confidence, self love and acceptance. It’s helped me achieve goals and has encouraged me to conquered many demons. This journal of mine has evolved over time, and for the past few months I’ve been finding a quote that means something to me, and then I write a few words about it and how I can apply or do apply it to my own life. I then have the fun of picking out a beautiful color that helps me further define the quote with something visual. I know, it sounds nerdy, but for me it’s grounding. A bit of reflection before the rest of the day takes me over. Without further ado, here is the quote for the day:

Those Who Tell Stories Rule Society – Plato

I have always admired books and authors and have seen the entire writing process as something as a sacred gift that is bestowed on many but few can see their way clearly. The power of a story is immense, and in countless, hidden and unseen ways have changed and touched so many human lives. Is there anything more powerful than a story when it comes to humans? It is the essence of who we are, how we live, how we communicate, how we touch others. I am in total agreement, Plato, that stories rule society whether or not people know this or not. All of us have our own stories that we hold inside. Some make us really sick and cause us to do things we hate ourselves for. Some stories we set free and in the freeing we become free. Some stories carry us through our pain and hardships and defeats. Some stories inspire and we do things we never thought we were able to do. Some stories entertain and take us to places we never dreamed we could go. The power of stories is the most powerful gift we have as humans. And what a lovely gift indeed.

Meet Kelly

I’m a midwestern gal, born and raised on the shores of Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana. I began my recovery journey in 2020 when I finally figured out that alcohol was holding me back, and no longer had a place in the life I’m trying to create.

I hope this blog will help you find connection, encouragement, and hope on your own Sobering Journey.
